A History of Generosity and Involvement
From the very beginning, Frederick Memorial Hospital has been a focal point for those who wish to contribute to the care of people and build a better community.
Since 1902, thousands of individuals, businesses and organizations in Frederick County, and beyond, have given to maintain and elevate the excellent healthcare we are able to provide. These include the gifts of the Hood family that added two new wings to Frederick City Hospital…plus the generosity of The George L. Shields Foundation, Inc., Carol L. & Norma H. Miller, Dr. & Mrs. Robert D. Crouch, The Nora Roberts Foundation, and Bess & Frank Gladhill, which made our newest expansion in 2007 a reality. Today, the generous spirit that has enabled us to grow in the past continues to thrive even more strongly.
Our Not-For-Profit Status: Being Focused on the Right Things
- Our very character is based on giving.
- We are a not-for-profit healthcare organization, which means we do not work for investors or stakeholders.
- We work for our patients, our community, our employees, and for a healthier world.
- Our oversight is provided by a Board of Directors, which is comprised of a cross section of community leaders and business people who volunteer their time. Their role is to establish a vision for our future, maintain accountability to the community, and evaluate our performance.
- Internally, we have many initiatives and programs that help ensure our ongoing growth. Our Development Council was established as a hospital department in 1989. It uses our 501c3 not-for-profit status as well as volunteer involvement to raise tax deductible gifts. Since 1989, over $51 million has been raised for renovation, new construction, service line enhancement, and new and replacement medical technology at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
- We continue to evolve and expand our ‘Culture of Philanthropy’ within our hospital family and the community. Some of our latest developments include the establishment of ACE (A Caring Employee) Club and a Grateful Patient Program.
